The following document contains additional notes / features that may help you in your installation, use and enjoyment of CD AutoCache CD-ROM acceleration software v1.00.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

CD AutoCache v1.00 is compatible on any Macintosh Plus model or higher running system 6.0 or higher, with at least 2 mb of free RAM.
CD AutoCache supports virtually all SCSI CD-ROM drives for the Macintosh, from single to quadruple speed devices. If you happen to run into a mechanism that is not supported by this version of CD AutoCache, please contact CharisMac Engineering immediately. We will acquire the drive, gain support, and ship you an upgrade with support for the new drive free of charge.
INSTALLATION NOTES

To install CD AutoCache v1.00, simply double click on the installer button. From this point, follow the Macintosh dialogue boxes until your installation is complete. Power up your CD-ROM drive, start your Macintosh and you are ready to begin CD-ROM acceleration.
PHOTO CD SUPPORT
________________
CD AutoCache is both single session and multi-session Photo CD compatible, depending upon your CD-ROM drive. Users should install QuickTime version 1.5, or later to take full advantage of Photo CD disks.
• System 6 users must have QuickTime installed or you may not be able to mount Photo CD disks when using Apple’s Photo Access system extension file. Without QuickTime, disks will be ejected, and will not mount
APPLE PHOTO ACCESS

Apple Photo Access is a system extension file that allows the Finder to display custom icons and folder structure on Photo CD disks. Macintosh computers that do not have the Apple Photo Access extension can still access Photo CD’s, however, you will not be able to use the Finder to browse through photographs, and select certain photos to open. This will mean that you must use some type of graphics program such as PhotoShop, that is Photo CD compatible, in order to view Photo CD pictures. Apple Photo Access can be obtained from your local Apple Authorized Dealer, Kodak, or you may download the file directly via AppleLink.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT INFORMATION

CharisMac Engineering provides a Technical Support staff to help customers who have purchased CD AutoCache directly from CharisMac Engineering, or to customers who have purchased CD AutoCache seperate from a CD-ROM drive from a Macintosh Mail Order, or Retail store outlet. If you need technical support, please have your CharisMac invoice number, and software serial number, or the name of the Mail Order company where you purchased the product along with your software serial number, and someone will be happy to assist you.
CD AutoCache is also licensed for use by various CD-ROM drive manufacturers, and third party CD-ROM drive retailers. If you have received your product bundled with a CD-ROM drive, please call the company that sold you the CD-ROM drive and they will be happy to assist you.
˜˜˜˜NOTE: You must be a registered user of CD AutoCache in order to receive technical support from either a CharisMac Engineering representative, or to gain access to CharisMac’s BBS. In order to quickly process your call if a technical support situation may arise, please send your registration card to CharisMac Engineering as soon as you receive CD AutoCache. The registration card can be found in the CD-ROM Utility User’s manual located directly following the cover page. By sending in the registration card, CharisMac will also keep you informed on updates to CharisMac products.
TROUBLESHOOTING

CD AutoCache is shipped with virtually all leading CD-ROM drives from various CD-ROM drive retailers, and sold directly to thousands of end-users through the retail channel. Between these two avenues, CD AutoCache is able to support 99.9% of the SCSI CD-ROM drives for the Macintosh.
The majority of problems occur simply by improper SCSI cabeling, termination, conflicting SCSI ID#'s or failure to start up the Macintosh with the CD-ROM drive powered up. Other problems occur when user's fail to remove a previous CD-ROM driver from the extension folder and attempt to load both the old driver, and the CD AutoCache driver to run the CD-ROM drive. Remember, only one driver can be in your system folder at start up or you will experience a driver conflict, and you will not be able to mount CDs.
For a quick and simple installation with an external CD-ROM drive:
1. Make sure that the software was installed properly. If you have questions on the installation process, please consult your user’s manual.
2. Make sure that the SCSI ID# of your CD-ROM drive is not the same as another device attached to your SCSI Bus. For information on SCSI ID# set up, please consult your CD-ROM drive user’s manual. REMEMBER, the numbers 0 and 7 are normally reserved for your internal hard drive, and your Macintosh computer respectively.
3. Make sure that your SCSI cables are securely attached.
4. Power up your CD-ROM drive.
5. Turn on your Macintosh computer.
6. If the CD Driver and CD AutoCache icons appear without X's, your software has been successfully installed and your CD-ROM drive is properly attached, simply place a CD in the drive and you are up and running.
˜˜˜˜Note: Please remember that CD-ROM drive icon will not appear on your desktop like your hard drive icon. In order to access your CD-ROM drive, simply place a disk in the drive (using a CD-ROM caddy if necessary) and you will be able to see the disk icon appear on your desktop.
• If you have several devices daisy chained from your Macintosh, and you are experiencing problems with CD AutoCache v1.00, begin by removing all other devices from the SCSI bus. Go through the steps above to make sure that you have set the drive up correctly. By removing all other devices, you can verify if the problem still exists with only your CD-ROM drive hooked up to the SCSI bus. In this case, the problem may be drive specific, please call the company from where you purchased the drive for technical support.
Remember these suggestions and you will be able to solve 99% of your problems with your CD-ROM drive, and the CD AutoCache software. For more troubleshooting suggestions, please consult the CharisMac Engineering CD-ROM Utility user's manual.
